Interior decoration is a field of expanding vocational opportunities creating an increasing demand for its graduates. Its importance lies in the fact that the interior use of room is changing frequently due to the fast changing lifestyle. In the process, many schools of interior design are started and they offer diplomas and degrees. Though there are number of books on this subject from the Western world, there are only few books that bridge the gap of interior design and decoration concepts and its application to Indian situations. <><> The book covers topics such as elements and principles of design, colour, furniture arrangement, furnishings, lighting, window treatments accessories, flower arrangement and floor and wall finishes. To ensure easy understandability, certain designs and concepts have been illustrated in a simple and build manner. To enhance the interest and creativity of the readers, assignments and project work is included in all the chapter. To enable the users of this book to have a clear and a comprehensive understanding, exercises comprising of objective type questions and statements also form a part of the book. Thus this book will cater to the needs of the student community of various faculties such as interior designing, Home Science, Home Economics, Architecture etc.
Dr. (Mrs.) P. Parimalam, Associate Professor is in the Department of Family Resource Management in Home Science College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai. She is involved in teaching, research and extension activities in the area of resource management. She has carried out research projects funded by agencies such as ICAR, DST and UGC. She has published several articles in the National and International journals.
Dr. (Mrs.) A. Andal, is the Dean, Home Science College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai. She is involved in teaching and research for more than three decades. She has guided several Masters’ researchers and has carried out several research projects in various fields of Home Science. In recognition of her teaching, she has been awarded with “Best Teacher Award” by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in 2001. She has been instrumental in the development of different faculties in Home Science. She has authored two books and has presented several research papers in National and International Conferences.
Dr.(Mrs.) M. R. Premalatha, is Professor and Head, Department of Family Resource Management, Home Science College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai. She is the Academic Co-ordinator of the College. She is involved in teaching for more than 29 years and has guided several Masters’ and Doctoral researchers. She has authored two books and has presented several research papers in National and International conferences. She has undergone six months of training in Canada.
