Dr. D. Thyagarajan, Director, Centre for Animal Production Studies, Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University entered into his professional career as Assistant professor on 22.03.1980. He has completed 30 years of service in the different position as Assistant professor, Associate professor, Professor and now presently as Director, Centre for Animal Production Studies. He was awarded the prestigious national “Outstanding Extension Scientist” award for the triennium 1996-1998 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research with citation for his dedicated work on open education network in animal husbandry enterprises in Tamilnadu. He was instrumental in getting nine external funded schemes to the tune of Rs.252.24 lakhs. He has released five useful technologies.

He has standardized the package of practices for scientific turkey farming in Tamilnadu.

He has published 60 research papers, 95 popular articles, 10 books, 25 books edited, 4 booklets, 16 pamphlets and 6 e-lessons. He was the Principal investigator of 11 external funded schemes. He has adopted five villages under DBT scheme for integrated scientific turkey farming. He was responsible for massive open educational network programmes between 1990-1999 for 7893 rural farmers

He has guided three Ph.D., and seven M.V.Sc students and further guiding one M.V.Sc student. He has received best oral presentation prize to his scientific article in international workshop. He has received UGC book grant and Tamilnadu scientific book society textbook grant. He was instrumental for getting three prizes to Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

He has reported four specific diseases in poultry for the first time. He is well versed in the investigation of disease outbreak. Reported first time, “Incidence of Salmonella weltevreden 3, 10, n 26 in broilers” and “Hepatocellular and Cholangiocellular Carcinoma in ducks” for the first time. He has recently organized the following two workshops

National Workshop on opportunities in Poultry Production Biotechnology.

National Seminar on Emerging opportunities in Alternate Poultry Farming System.

He is a life time member in Indian Veterinary Council, World Poultry Association, Indian Society for Nuclear Technology in Animal Science and Indian Veterinary Journal.
