Zoonotic diseases represent one of the leading causes of illness and death from infectious disease. Defined by the World Health Organization , zoonoses are “ those diseases and infectious that are naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and man. “ An emerging zoonotic disease is defined as a new infection or the occurrence of a previously unrecognized infection and disease.                                             A re – emerging disease is considered an already known disease that either shifts its geographical setting or expands its host range , or significantly increases its preventive . Worldwide, zoonotic               diseases have a negative impact on commerce, travel, and economies. In most developing countries , these are among those diseases that contribute significantly to an already overly burdened public health system.                                   

In an effort to increase knowledge and understanding of emerging and re – emerging zoonotic diseases with current and probable future public health significance , this book is made available to the readers. The book deals with almost all the major emerging zoonoses. Great emphasis has been given on causal factors , epidemiology , methods of rapid diagnosis, one health approach in control and prevention as well as recommendations for people at health risk. Major factors for emergence of zoonoses have been amply described and future steps to be taken regarding these diseases have been suggested . The editors earnestly believe that the book will prove to be a unique resources for students to study advance aspects of zoonoses and will also be useful for Veterinary and Public Health Institutions and other Professionals.                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Dr. Ashwani Kumar  (B.V.Sc. & A.H.,  M.V.Sc., Ph.D., FIAVPHS ) has 40 years teaching and research experience in the area of Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology and Veterinary Microbiology . Food Hygiene , Zoonoses and Animal Mycoplasmosis are the areas of research . He Served as Professor and Head of Department Veterinary Public Health in India and Ethiopia for about 20 years  and presently having a position of Professor, Veterinary Public Health at Addis Ababa University. Has guided several Ph.D., MVSc / MSc and DVM students and have more than 125 Publications including book chapters, teaching material, laboratory manuals and a book on fish production and diseases . Awarded FAO Fellowship, INSA Visiting Fellowship and DBT Biotechnology National Associateship and have visited University of Illinois, Urbana, USA, University of Sydney , Sydney , Australia, Ottawa, Canada and Ethiopia.                                                                                                                                                                                            

 Dr. Y. Hari Babu(MVSc. , Ph.D., M.B.A. (PE), FNAVS, FIAAVR, PGDEE, PGDBI)  Presently working as Vice – Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati. Earlier worked in Different capacities : as Director of Instructions (Post – Graduate Studies ), Karnataka Veterinary , Animal and Fisheries Sciences University , Bidar, Dean of Veterinary College , Bidar, Professor and Head Department of Veterinary College , Bidar, Deputy Chief General Manager, BIBCOL , Bulandshahar, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon in Animal Husbandry Department , A.P. with total service of 40 years . Obtained about 12 National , State and societies awarded incunding Lifetime achievement awards from professional bodies. Published 106 articles in National and International Journals and authored for 5 books related to Veterinary Immunology. Member of several professional bodies. Member of Governing body of Veterinary Council of India and also a member of Advisory Committee of Veterinary Council of India . As a Chairman , guided 24 M.V.Sc. (Veterinary Microbiology ) and 3 Ph.D. Students Acted and acting as chairman and member of several academic and professional bodies. Founder Chief Edited of ”Frontier Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences” an official Journal of Karnataka Veterinary , Animal and Fisheries Sciences University , Bidar, Karnataka, India.
