This book's intended broad scope introduces readers to the variety of insects-pest and their functions in forest ecosystems. This book discusses both the beneficial and harmful impacts insects have on forest health, even though the idea that an understanding of their ecology would help manage pest species in forest ecosystems. More in-depth coverage of many of the themes discussed in this book can be found in a number of outstanding publications and reviews. The goal of this book is to provide a thorough overview of the field of Forest Entomology. The importance of the ecological services provided by forests and woodlands is becoming increasingly recognized. For example, approximately 1.6 billion people (or 25% of the global population) rely on forests for subsistence, livelihoods, and income, according to a UN report (2021). As the world's population grows, the importance of forest and woodland ecosystem services is predicted to rise. The frequency and intensity of disturbances encountered by forest ecosystems have increased in parallel with the rise in demand for the benefits provided by these ecosystems. These disruptions have resulted in altered patterns of interactions and distributions between forest insects, pests, and trees, which have led to these sharp increases. To learn more about the causes of these disruptions, their effects, and ways to avoid or mitigate them, a lot of research has been done. Many new and developing technologies have boosted our knowledge of the significance and effects of insects in forest ecosystems, the variables affecting their number and distribution, and the strategies for mitigating the negative effects of insect and pest species.
