Agripreneurship offers diverse opportunities for rural youth across various sub-sectors, including agriculture and horticultural production, livestock, processing, and agricultural inputs. North East India is well-suited for cultivating various fruits and vegetables, including unique indigenous varieties with significant market potential. Traditionally cultivated in the Jhum fields, the Naga King Chilli, known throughout the world for its high pungency and pleasant aroma, is indigenous to the region. The popular turmeric landrace, Lakadong, from the West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya is renowned for its high curcumin content. Other crops, such as Khasi Mandarin, pineapple, cashew, tuber crops, and tree bean (Parkia species), also present abundant entrepreneurial opportunities in the region. This book provides scientific practices for cultivation, including the selection of good varieties, nutrient and agronomic management, pest and disease control measures, post-harvest management, and marketing strategies for each of the crops mentioned above. In the livestock sector, pig farming has long been an integral part of the socio-economic fabric of the region. Apart from some commercial broiler production, poultry farming in the region, including improved varieties of chicken, such as Vanaraja, Grampriya, and Srinidhi, is dominated by the unorganized sector in the form of small-scale backyard poultry farming. The North East is home to a rich diversity of fish species, including indigenous varieties like Rohu, Catla, and Mrigal, and holds potential for ornamental fish culture due to the presence of many colourful and exotic species. The book covers the most important and unique products of the North Eastern Region and provides much-needed information on good practices that are essential for sustaining a profitable agribusiness.
