The present book in the user-friendly format is a first publication on “General Veterinary Surgery” for the benefits of students and beginners, comprising authentic information on historical aspects to diagnosis and treatment for the management of clinical patients. This book is a compilation of scholarly and practical knowledge in the field of general surgery covering large and small animal species for ready reference of the users. The book is spread over 43 chapters selected to cater the needs of veterinary students, internists, academicians, clinicians and practicing veterinarians. Mechanisms of action of important therapies are described in brief for better understanding of the effects. The content of this book has been kept keeping in view the revised curriculum of the Veterinary Council of India for undergraduate students to fulfill the academic interest related to course work. The text is dealt with a simple, systematic classified and practical manner, avoiding complicated details, so as to make it useful. More than 100 appropriate illustrations pertain mostly to various surgical instruments, suture techniques and common surgical affections have been included to complement the text. Importance has been laid to include effective learning features such as exercises: review questions, contains more than two hundred solved objective types questions, help reinforce key information for various entrance tests viz: Pre-P.G, ICAR-JRF, ICARSRF, NET, ARS, Pre-IAS, Union PSC, State PSC, State civil services examination and interviews. An alumnus of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Deemed University), Izatnagar, UP and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree (Surgery and Radiology) in the year 2012. He has over 11 years of experience of teaching, research, extension education and administration. During this period he has served College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at India’s foremost Agricultural University Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He has extended his services as specialist/consultant to the Zoological Park; Pet Clinic, Patna and World Bank funded Diversified Agricultural Support Project, Uttarakhand. At present he is imparting teaching, research, extension and clinical activities at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, a premier Agricultural University of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Ansari has been honoured with number of awards and recognitions for his contributions to profession viz. Best Volunteer NSS award (1998), Regional Research Journey Samman Patra and medal (2003), Awarded Outstanding Scientists of the Twenty First Century year (2008), International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England; Award of Excellence in World Veterinary Day Celebration (2010 and 2011), Outstanding Participant’s Award, Appreciation Award and Silver medal in Tug of war, Foundation Day Celebration, IVRI (2011). Research papers presented in 5 national and 4 international conferences/ symposia. Published more than 100 publications in various national and international journals of repute and magazines, 1 booklet, edited 2 manuals, 7 chapters in a books and has delivered 2 Radio & TV talks at such a young age is itself a proof of his caliber. He is a lifelong member of several professional associations in India and abroad. He has also been on the Editorial board and reviewers for number of scientific journals and manuals/handbooks.
