This book entitled ‘A glimpse on Veterinary Education in India’ has been planned as a referral document embodied therein various facets of existing scenario that has been culminated through successive developments taken place ever since time immemorial. It covers chapters on History of Veterinary Education in Indian Sub-continent, available resources pertinent to this sector, strategies for resource management, gap analysis and possible measures to bring reforms in overall growth of livestock sector. Some reflections toward Post Graduate education have also been briefly covered. Education through private sector and feasibility to explore ‘Public Private Partnership’ in veterinary education has been attempted with the view to add new dimensions to educational set up. Possible approach in stream lining and managing lower education and continuing education programs has been suggested. A chapter on regulatory and governance mechanisms in managing the affairs of veterinary educational system provides insight to the existing system. Under the changing scenario, re-tuning of educational system have becomes inevitable to make it more responsive for faster development and growth. Inputs have also been gathered from subject matter specialists especially on clinical approach toward health care and diagnostics including imaging, livestock instructional units and transfer of technological practices, in order to make composite projections of veterinary educational institution that forms the sound base for establishment and operation of a college. This document will be equally relevant guiding force for the national and regional planning and regulatory bodies, the academic and scientific institutions, including universities, institutions, colleges, faculty and scientific personals and students etc., all of whom can draw benefit from it, in not only getting acquainted with various facets of progressive development but would use it as a useful tool in reshaping veterinary education policies and programs in this country under the umbrella of global developments.

Prof. (Dr) Jitendra Singh Bhatia, BVSc&AH, MSc (AIIMS) PhD, FNAAS, FNAVS (I) Born in SIMLA on 29.05.1942 Qualification: Educated at College of Veterinary and Animal Science, BIKANER 334001,BVSc&AH 1965, AIIMS, M. Sc (1974), Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Ph.D(1984). Professional experience: Former ADG (education development & planning) ICAR, Controller of Examinations with Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, Professor of Veterinary Physiology, CCS HAU Hisar, Apollo College of Veterinary Medicine, Jaipur and presently working at Khalsa College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Ram Tirth Road, Amritsar-143 002. Professional contributions: Professional experience of 50 years of working as faculty member, academic manager and policy planning and plan formulations at Center and State Governments. Remained actively involved in teaching at UG and PG level and guided students at master’s and doctorate level. Associated with highest managemental and academic bodies with agricultural/ veterinary universities till date. Member of various national committees: Peers Review committees (PRC) of the Universities, Scientific organizations,. Accreditation committees, Quinquennial review committee (QRT), selection boards, search committees and members of the scientific & professional councils and fellows of National societies. Major area of research: Rumen Physiology with special reference to Camel ecology, Neuro-endocrinology with particular reference to alterations of hypothalamic mechanisms in diabetics. Handled externally funded scientific projects as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. Assignments at hand: Member of Board of Management of a Veterinary (RAJUVAS) and an Agricultural University (CSK HPKVV), member of Peers review committee of the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur. Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Physiology & Bio-Chemistry, and Academic Coordinator, Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, (KCVAS) Amritsar. Publications: Besides, 50 scientific publications in National and International Journals of repute, published and circulated more than 25 articles on Veterinary Education and is regularly contributing articles of professional interest in News Letters, Journals, Magazines, Periodicals and have presented lead papers, key note address at National and International conferences.
