The manual covers all areas of irrigation water management related to agriculture. It is a comprehensive practical treatment on the measurement of soil bulk density, field capacity and wilting point, soil moisture content, soil water potential; preparation of soil moisture characteristic curves, irrigation water requirement; infiltration characteristics of soil and irrigation efficiencies; demonstration of furrow, check basin and ringbasin methods of irrigation; soil moisture extraction pattern of crops; cost estimation of drip irrigation system, filter cleaning, fustigation, injection and flushing of laterals, emitter discharge rates, wetted diameter and calculation of emitter discharge variability; erection and operation of sprinkler irrigation systems; determination of irrigation water quality, saturated/unsaturated hydraulic conductivity; consumptive use, water requirement of crops; crop planning at the farm and project level. The procedure for estimation of various parameters related to irrigation and water management is given. Descriptions of necessary equipment areincluded, workout problems and examples have been included to emphasize the practical aspect and facilitate the understanding of the subject matter. Tables and figures are also given for better illustration. A list of important references is given at the end of the manual.
