The present book entitled “Conservation and Management of Indigenous Breeds of Cattle for Sustainable Utilization” presents the current status, problems and conservation strategies of our valuable indigenous cattle breeds at institute, state and national level. The suggested programmes and policies are an outcome of the deliberations among members of the working groups and the regional consultations with stakeholders in livestock development. The subject matter has been collected and compiled from various books, journals and web sources, arranged and expressed in simple language as per requirement of the students, researchers and policy makers. I thank authors and other participants for their valuable inputs. I hope the suggestions and strategies contained in this book will serve an important input for developing effective policies and implementable programmes at field level.
