Essential Bioinformatics and Data mining is specifically designed to make bioinformatics accessible to undergraduates and beginners to prepare them for more advanced analysis. It is written for courses that have a practical, hands-on element and contains many exercises on DNA, RNA, and protein sequence analysis. Additionally, the book includes a chapter on basic background on statistical analysis using relevant biological examples. A chapter on basic concepts of computer aided drug designing has been incorporated for students of clinical research. The book is essential reading for students of all levels in molecular biology and bioinformatics, as well as students interested in genomics, clinical research, proteomics, and computational biology.

Dr. Biswajit Brahma is M.V.Sc. Gold Medallist from National Dairy Research Institute, Deemed University, Karnal, India. He received Ph.D. in Animal Biotechnology from National Dairy Research Institute, and is currently serving as Assistant Professor (SS) in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. Working in the field of animal genomics, Dr. Brahma's research interests include genomic basis of pathogen-host interactions to explain disease resistance in animals, molecular recognition of microbial signatures by pattern recognition receptors and downstream signalling processes for development of non-infectious synthetic vaccine targeting innate immune system and comparative genomics of innate immune receptors and elucidation of mechanism of MAMP recognition by PRR receptors. Author of more than 20 international journal articles, Dr. Brahma has made significant contribution in research through exploration of genetic diversity of innate immune genes of Indian livestock, DNA based methods for detection of cross-species adulteration in animal products, and genetic basis of fecundity and male infertility in Indian livestock.
