Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy which contricutes 22 per cent of GDP. The total production of food crop , oilseeds, fibres and other crop increased to a large extent after evolution of dwarf , fertilizer and irrigation responsive hybrids especially in wheat , sorghum and other crops which enables us to meet hunger of the large population of our country.

The research is a continuous process for searching the solutions to the problems being faced by the farmers. Agronomy discipline deals with various crop production techniques like sowing time , genotypes, plant population and geometry, fertilizer, weed management, etc. The knowledge of various techniques pertaining to randomization, laying out of experiment in the fields, pre-and post-harvest observation on crop plants soil and plant analysis, soil moisture determination, weed index, weed control efficiency, etc. is essential for drawing valid conclusions after completion of research projects. In the book entitled “Research Techniques in Agronomy” attempt has been made to give the logistics of research techniques along with the interpretation of the observations. I am sure, this book will be very useful to the facilitators of field trials in various discipline in general , and agronomy in particular. I hope, the book will provide necessary guidelines to the scientists , research workers, teachers, students, government officers, private organizations and NGOs working in the field of agriculture.
