The book is recommended for farmers, students, faculty and researchers related to agriculture and its allied sector including fisheries and animal husbandry. This book aims to promote sustainable and profitable income from agriculture and allied sectors through use of farmers’ friendly and simple technologies affordable and adaptable to farmers. There are 30 chapters in this book covering multiple technologies related to farming system, climate change, commodity crop interventions, role of women in farming system, livestock health, production and management, fisheries, integrated aquaculture, agricultural mechanization and alternate income generating activities. The Government of India though NITI Aayog has set a futuristic goal of doubling farmers income by 2022 in order to promote farmers’ welfare, reduce agrarian distress and bring parity by bridging the gap between income of farmers and those working in non-agricultural professions. This is possible only by reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the productivity, reducing the losses from disease, processing, storage and marketing. This book is the outcome of a Gol sponsored Model Training Program conducted by ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna with the objective to impart training to stakeholders working with state line departments, KVKs and universities on improving livelihood of the farmers by application and adaptation of advanced technologies which are farmer friendly, low cost and sustainable. This book will serve as platform for planner, agencies, innovative farmers to get holistic knowledge on bundle of agricultural technologies which can sustain and improve livelihood of farmers.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar has 14 years’ research, extension and six years of teaching experience dedicated towards Animal Health, Diagnostics of large animal. He has worked as Scientist in the Division of Medicine, IVRI from 2007 to 2012. At present working as Senior Scientist, Veterinary Medicine, ICAR RCER, Patna. He started his professional education in 1995 from College of Veterinary Sciences, Mathura under CSAUA&T, Kanpur and passed out with University Medal. Then, he did his M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Deemed University Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly in the year 2003 and 2006, respectively. He was awarded Dr. C.M. Singh Gold Medal for his Ph.D. degree. His innovative research has resulted in more than 50 research publications in journals of international and national repute. He has been bestowed with many recognition and awards by different societies like National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine, Society for Community Mobilization, Society for Animal Welfare, etc. like Gold Medal for Bovine Medicine in the name of Shri Matunga Jain Gowraksath Mandali Gold Medal, Bharat Jyoti Award, Best Presentation Award, Appreciation Award, Young Professional Award, Young Scientist, Best Scientist Award, Best Poster Awards, etc.

Dr. Santosh Kumar is presently working as Senior Scientist, Plant Breeding in the Division of Crop Research in ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar. He has done B.Sc. (Agriculture) from IAS, BHU, Varanasi and M.Sc. and Ph.D. from IARI, New Delhi. He has more than 11 years of research experience in the field of plant breeding with specialization to rice breeding. Dr. Kumar has taken lead in development of three rice varieties (Swarna Shreya, Swarna Shakti Dhan and Swarna Samriddhi Dhan) for water scarcity areas. He has profound interest in extension activities & has participated and organized many frontline demonstrations (FLDs), farmers’ training and field days programme. He has also taken lead in national (AICRIP-Rice), and International (STRASA, IRRAS, ICAR-IRRI projects funded by BMGF and IRRI) projects. Dr. Kumar has more than 125 publications to his credit.

Dr. Abhay Kumar is presently working as Principal Scientist, Agricultural Statistics in the Division of Socioeconomics and Extension in ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar. He has done B.Sc. and M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Science College, Patna. He has more than 23 years of research experience in the field of Agricultural Extension with specialization livelihood improvement of resource poor. He has worked in different capacities in ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar, Rajasthan and ICAR RCER, Patna. He has headed the Division of Socio-economic and Extension for more than 3 years and Prioritization, Monitoring and Evaluation Cell of the Institute for more than 6 years. He has led many National (NAIP Comp-3) and International (ICRISAT funded VDSA) projects. Dr. Kumar has more than 50 publications to his credit.
