Bovine Production is one of the main subject of Livestock Production. The available books on the subject are eighter from developed countries or limited to European cattle (Bos Taurus). In the Bhartiya sub-continent, the native bovines are Indian Cattle (Bos Indicus), imported humpless cattle (Bos Taurus) and their crossbreads of different proportions of genetic materials. The Bhartiya cattle (Bos Indicus) fall in three sub-groups of Dairy cattle, dual purpose cattle and draught cattle. The other important dairy bovine is water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) known for their milk of 6-8% fat content. Next one is multipurpose swamp buffaloes (Bubalus swampis)reared also in all south-east and east Asian countries for draught, milk and meat (buffen and buffeal). Another unique aspect is the information about area specific Yak (Bos gruniense) and Mithun (Bos frontalis). The other important aspects are phases of lifecycle of bovines for optimum feeding, feeds of bovines, nutritional improvement of feed, minerals and vitamins, feed additives, ration formulation for bovines, traditional feedings of domestic bovines, Scientific feeding of bovines, survival feeding of spent cattle and employments in bovine production. The last 4 chapters and chapters 3 and 4 are distinct and important for the students, teachers, research scholars and farmers of not only Bharat but also most of the tropical countries.
