The Text Book on Ornamental Crop Breeding is an indispensable publication designed to cater to the needs of Horticulture students, researchers in the field of plant breeding, amateur flower breeders, professional flower growers, nurserymen and Landscape architects. Authored by experts in the field, this book presents a holistic approach to understanding the principles, techniques, and applications of breeding flower crops. The initial seven introductory chapters are devoted to the history of ornamentals breeding, ornamental plants breeding, methods/techniques in ornamental plant breeding, biotechnological approaches for improvement of ornamental plants, breeding for disease resistance, role of heterosis and its exploitation and utilization of male sterility for hybrid seed production. Nineteen most important flowers crops like rose, marigold, chrysanthemum, jasmine, tuberose, gladiolus, china aster, carnation, anthurium, antirrhinum, bougainvillea, crossandra, gaillardia, gerbera, petunia, zinnia, cosmos and dahlia are separately dealt in detail in this publication. The flower crop varieties released by all the research institutes and State Agricultural Universities have been compiled and are up-to-date. Despite the fact that, there are many books on breeding of flower crops for B. Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture but none of the textbooks covers the key ideas in line with the requirement of B. Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture curriculum and sure this book will remain special in the market for farm science students.
