The book titled “Environmental Science and Soil Ecology: A Glossary“ contains information about the basic terms and concepts of the environmental science and related/allied subjects. The glossary of the different terms have been arranged in alphabetical fashion and explained in brief and lucid manner. The book shall be useful for students perusing their career in the field of Environmental Science, Soil Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biodiversity, Biology, Forestry, Sericulture, Agriculture Engineering, Limnology, Fisheries, Crop Science, Meteorology and other related subjects. This book shall also be useful for the students preparing for competitive examinations viz., AIEEA, ICAR-UG/PG Scholarships, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. ASRB, Net, SET, etc. This book shall help the readers to quickly grasp the basic vocabulary and definitions in a systematic manner.
Farooq Ahmad Lone is Professor in the Division of Environmental Sciences, SKUAST Kashmir. He has also served as Head, Division of Environmental Sciences (July, 2017 - September, 2020) and Group Leader of Centre for Climate Change and Mountain Agriculture, SKUAST, Kashmir (2012-2016). He is M.Sc. (Gold Medalist) and Ph.D from A.M.U., Aligarh. Dr Lone is also the recipient of Best Teacher Award 2017 (Assessment period 2013-2017) by SKUAST, Kashmir and has received many best paper presentation awards in various national and international conferences. Dr Lone has more than 100 publications (research papers (national and international)/popular articles/technical reports, etc.) to his credit. His area of expertise includes Environmental Pollution, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Monitoring and Climate Change. He is also the author/ co-author of several books. Many students have completed their Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees under his supervision. He has also carried out several research projects as Principal Investigator funded by DST (New Delhi & J&K), UGC, New Delhi and NMHS. He has more than 26 years of experience in teaching, research and extension.
Subhash Chand born on 25th July 1972 in Rajasthan in a farmer family. Presently working as Professor-cum-Chief Scientist of Soil Science, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Campus- Shalimar, Srinagar-190025. UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Subhash did his BSc. (Ag.) Honours and MSc. (Ag.) Honours in Soil Science from Rajasthan Agriculture University Bikaner in 1995 & 1997 respectively. He earned his Ph.D. (Ag.) in Soil Science from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur in 2001. He received Best PG Course Work Seminar Award & Somani Book Award (essay competition) by ISSS, Udaipur Chapter during 1995-1997. and PG University Merit Scholarship during his PG. Dr Subhash is an elected member of Association of Soil and Water Conservationist-Dehradun for 2022-23. He was also a Councillor – North zone of ISSS&LUP-Nagpur for 2014-15. Dr. Subhash has 20 years of experience of Teaching of UG, PG and Ph.D., Research and Extension in SAU System. He is a member of editorial board of several national and international journal of repute. He has presented his work at Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany in 2010. He Co-Chaired Technical and Parallel sessions at GBPUAT-Pantnagar and RARI-Durgapura. He has authored five books. His area of research interest is soil fertility and plant nutrition, integrated nutrient management, potassium management, soil water air pollution etc. In total, he has published 150 publications including popular articles, research papers, conference seminar papers, etc. in Soil Sciences. He was also awarded Bhoominirman Award and Prashasti Patra in 2011 by Bhoominirman Group at Indore for his work.
Suraj Kumar is a research scholar of division of Soil Science, SKUAST-K, Srinagar. He did his B.Sc. (Ag.) from SKNAU, Jobner. He did his post-graduate research on soil organic carbon sequestration potential across landuse and precipitation gradient of Kashmir Valley under Supervision of Dr. S.A. Bangaroo. He has published few papers on Carbon Sequestration and Soil Ecology.
Bhawani Singh is a research scholar of Division of Soil Science, SKUAST-K, Srinagar, He did his B.Sc. (Ag.) from SKNAU, Jobner, Rajasthan. M.Sc. (Ag.) Soil Science from Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir. He did his post-graduate research on Phosphorus and Potassium fixation-Resurgence rates for different land use of district Ganderbal under the Guidence of Dr. Shaista Nazeer. He has published few research papers on effect of different land use systems on soil organic carbon sock.
Azrah is perusing her doctoral studies at Division of Soil Science, SKUAST-K, Shalimar. He did her master's degree under the Guidance of Prof. Subhash Chand on Potassium supplying capacity of some pear orchard soils in Budgam district of Kashmir through Quantity and Intensity approach.
