Red jungle fowl is very precious bird, being the ancestor of all the modern day chicken and having its existence to-day also. Chicken plays a very crucial role in providing nutritional security. The present day high yielding chicken varieties are the back bone of the multi million rupees poultry industry. In the process of genetic improvement of the domestic chicken for high production potential, apprehensions are that while enormous gains have been made on production potential, but the attributes related to adaptability and livability were lost. The simultaneous availability of red jungle fowl, diversified but un-improved native chicken and high yielding varieties provide unique opportunity of comparative evaluation at genetic as well as molecular level.

In present book, attempts have been made to incorporate the information on molecular characterization of Red Jungle Fowl.
