The book covers conventional as well as modern approaches for conservation and improvement of indigenous Animals Genetic Resources, which have attained greater importance against the backdrop of climate change scenario. The book will be useful for the students, teachers and scientists working in the field of Livestock Improvement in general and Animal Genetics and Breeding in particular.

Dr. K.P. Ramesha is heading Southern Regional Station of ICAR-NDRI, Bengaluru. He earned B.V.Sc. and M.V.Sc. degree from Veterinary College , Bangalore and obtained Ph.D. from NDRI , Karnal in 1991. He earned PG Diploma in IPR and Master of IP Law. He did pioneering work in the area of male fertility assessment , livestock genomics , embryo biotechnology, improvement of indigenous cattle, transcriptomics , and screening of males for genetic disease & cytogenetic abnormalities and proteomics of milk and IPR issues. He has successfully completed  22 research projects including DBT, NATP, Karnataka Government and NDDB funded projects and guided to 10 PG and 6 Ph.D. Scholars. Due to his efforts Malnad Gidda – dwarf cattle of Karnataka has been registered as a recognized breed . He has been empanelled as Scientific Advisor under Patent Act. He has Published more than 95 research articles , about 100 scientific and technical publications. He has edited and published several books, book chapters and monographs. He has 3 patent applications to his credit. Dr. Ramesha is the biennium 2004-2005 by ICAR , New Delhi,  Dr. G.B. Singh Memorial Award, 1993 of the Indian Society for Study of Animal Reproduction, Visiting  fellow of JNCASR, Bangalore , Indira Gandhi Sadbhavana Gold Medal Award , 2011-2013 by Karnataka Veterinary Associations , Best Zoologist Awards , 2013 by Society for applied Biotechnology . He has been elected as a fellow of Society for Associations for the Advancement of Biodiversity Science during 2013. Justic Sri.M.N. Venkatachaliah , the former Chief Justic of  India  conferred sir J.C. Bose Memorial Awards from Indian Science Monitor , (Regd.) Chennai to Dr. Ramesha on 18th January , 2015. He is the fellow of Indian Dairy Association, India, Fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences  (India) and National Academy of Dairy Science (India ).

Dr. D.N. Das has research experience of 23 years in the areas of Cytogenetics , Animal Breeding , Molecular Genetics and Transcriptomics. He has contributed for 7 years towards yak genetic improvement . Presently focused in areas bovine genetic resources for characterization, evalution and genetic Improvement of indigenous cattle with special reference to deoni breed towards improvement of disease tolerance , adaptability and lactation performances . Published 85 research papers of International and National repute. He has handled 8 externally funded research projects including two inter – institute collaborative projects .
